Plant-Based Entrepreneurs Transform Their Health at 40 with Complete Lifestyle Overhaul

Reaching the milestone of 40 years old prompted a dramatic health transformation for longtime friends and business partners Ian Theasby and Henry Firth. The Sheffield-born entrepreneurs, who built the successful plant-based brand BOSH! nearly ten years ago, decided to completely revamp their approach to wellness after taking a hard look at their lifestyle choices.

Despite already following a plant-based diet, the duo realized they weren’t optimizing their health as effectively as possible. Their habits included excessive sugar consumption, regular alcohol intake, and insufficient attention to sleep and recovery. The arrival of children in their lives served as an additional catalyst for change, emphasizing their desire to maintain longevity for their families.

This realization led to the development of their latest cookbook, which focuses on incorporating significantly more plant varieties into daily meals. The entrepreneurs believe that consuming a diverse range of plant foods represents the optimal strategy for maximizing health benefits and energy levels.

Dramatic Results from Lifestyle Changes

The transformation has yielded impressive results for both men. They report substantial weight loss, increased energy sufficient to keep up with toddlers, and positive feedback from family members regarding their improved appearance. Their fitness levels have reached new heights, with one partner competing in triathlons while the other tackles ultra-marathons.

Eliminating alcohol has proven particularly beneficial. Rather than missing evening drinks, they’ve discovered greater satisfaction in waking up refreshed each morning. This change has created a positive cycle of early morning exercise, sustained energy throughout the day, and enhanced productivity.

Both men utilize health monitoring technology that tracks biological age versus chronological age. The results show biological ages that are 5-8 years younger than their actual ages, which they attribute to prioritizing sleep, proper nutrition, exercise, and abstaining from alcohol.

Embracing the Longevity Movement

Their approach draws inspiration from the biohacking community, including controversial figures who pursue extreme longevity protocols. While acknowledging the extreme nature of some practices, they view these pioneers as expanding possibilities for mainstream health optimization by highlighting fundamental principles like sleep importance and early meal timing.

The challenge of consuming 30 different plants weekly, recommended by various nutrition experts, may seem daunting but can be achieved through strategic meal planning. Simple additions like mixed seeds, nuts, chopped fruit, and dried fruits to morning meals can contribute nearly a third of the weekly target on the first day.

Family Nutrition Strategies

Managing toddler nutrition involves presenting variety without making food choices a negotiation. Their strategy involves simply placing diverse foods before children without asking preferences or seeking approval, allowing natural curiosity to guide consumption patterns.

Despite their disciplined approach, they maintain some indulgences, including daily dark chocolate consumption paired with nuts and raisins as an evening treat. This combination provides a satisfying alternative to conventional confections while maintaining nutritional benefits.

The entrepreneurs acknowledge that parenting young children presents ongoing challenges, but their current approach appears successful in establishing healthy eating patterns early in their children’s development.
